The use of technology is a very exciting opportunity for myself and my students in my health class. During the drug unit, the students research one drug and give a 5 minute presentation to the class using a power point and the rest of the class take notes on each of the 10 drugs presented. My hope for this blog is to give the students an open forum where I can post some current questions related to drugs. This will allow them to discuss with their classmates current trends in society with drug use.
Current statistics show that Meth is becoming the most widely used drug. Look through this website and reflect on the drastic effects on health. http://www.anti-meth.org/photos2.html
Lonnie – I think by having students blogging about the dangers of specific kind of drugs would be an excellent way of informing students. Just like you did, students can post links of websites with tons of information that would not be available during a normal classroom discussion. Also, I am sure that there are students who may have questions that they would not ask in class, but they would feel safer asking and contributing through a blog. Lastly, since what drugs and how drugs are being used changes very rapidly, the use of blogs and links to websites would provide students with the most up to date information.

ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of incorporating your blog into your health class. I think the idea of posting links and having a spot for kids to post videos and questions is a very active way to use the blog. I would suggest maybe having prompts for the kids to answer or a prompt to start a discussion, this would help in the beginng to help move discussions and links that kids post in the right direction.Great work so far!
